It has been over a week so I am well over due the lastest update from the far east!
Our last few days in Laos were relaxing and we did some essential last minute shopping. Then last monday we flew from Vientiane to Hanoi. Such a difference - where do I begin...
To start with the temperature. The weather was cold and wet with temperature highs of nearly 15 degrees during the day! Tuesday we spent looking for more warm clothes as we wore shorts all day with our trousers in the wash!
The city itself has a larger population, many more mopeds and taxis roam the streets and pavements - it really would be hellish to drive on the roads!
On tuesday evening we went to see the Vietnamise water puppet show - well worth the 40,000 dong we paid. Entertaining and sweet with ethnic music. This was much bette than Thai pop!
The reason this message is delayed is due to our 3 day boat cruise around Halong Bay - very beautiful and well worth the leaking boat and rat infestation! We met some wonderful people, did a mountain trek in the wet mud (climbing down paths with this mud on!), saw the caves in which 007 - Tomorrow never dies was filmed in. Then Saturday night we did an overnight sleeper train from Hanoi to Hue.
Hue is much more relaxed and far less populated! In fact we arrived in Hue this morning and we spent the day wandering palaces of past kings, Notre Dame Cathedrale, and the local streets, as well as organising the next part of our adventure. We booked a day tour of the city for tomorrow to get a full flavour of the city in the short time we have - with an english speaking tour guide thrown in! We also booked transport on from here, including a bus from Hue to Hoi An (our next stop and Vietnams tailoring capital), as well as a 24 hour bus (sleeper) from Hoi An to Saigon.
So we have been busy. I hope you have caught up now! Dad you will be pleased to know that I am keeping the Diary and I just know you are looking forward to it!
Keep me posted with events from home and I look forward to hearing from you all too!
Smiling as always,
Izzie

Yo, intrepid explorers and rat fanciers!
It must be in the genes. You go halfway round the world and you're still shopping for clothes! 15 degrees isn't cold. Uncannily, it's about the same here today, with sunshine.
Izzie, I know you like playing in mud but I can't see Kathy in it, so to speak! Hope you got lots of piccies?
The boat trip sounds like fun. We just looked at Halong bay on the web, it looks great.
We dusted off the old atlas and have been following you from your reports.
Glad to hear you're keeping up the diary entries. Any chance of some pictures?
How's the food? I'm intrigued to know how a selective eater, at home, is coping with a strange diet.
Enjoy your new trousers. M&Dxx:)

Hi Izzie, great to hear from you. Your holiday sounds like fun - particularly the rats!!!!!
Glad you are enjoying the food!!! Weather here Sunday was wonderful, just like spring - we have crocuses and primroses in the garden. Hope you are keeping in good health, Izzy Whizz, and stay safe.
